How Disasters and Trauma Can Affect Children's Empathy

Do children become more empathetic after a disaster? The answer may depend on their age. Jean Decety, SPI researcher, and his team were in the midst of a study determining how empathy in children depends on their age in Sichuan province in China when an earthquake, which measured 8.0 on the Richter scale, struck nearby Mianyang, China in 2008.
