Study Finds Women’s Generosity More Swayed by Social Pressure

In door-to-door solicitations, men and women tend to be equally generous in their giving. But what happens when solicitees are given the option to opt out of being asked? Recent research by John List and co-authors finds that women are more likely than men to avoid the solicitor when given the option. Put in another way, women are more responsive to social pressure than men.
