Edith Dobrez

Executive Director

Edie Dobrez has been the Executive Director of the Science of Philanthropy Initiative since its launch in 2012. She believes in connecting research to vital social enterprises for philanthropy and education in order to improve life outcomes for the most vulnerable of our society. While leading SPI, Edie also managed the Parent Academy in the United Kingdom and launched the Summer Institute on Field Experiments.

Prior to her tenure with SPI, Edie served as the executive director for the Chicago Heights Early Childhood Center (CHECC), another large-scale research initiative based out of the University of Chicago and Harvard University. Previous to CHECC, she worked at the University of Chicago’s Network for College Success.

Edie’s passion for social enterprise led her to serve as chair for both the South Suburban Education Funding Coalition and Districts 161 & 233 school referendum campaigns. She is also a founding member of the Healing Racism Chicago Southland. Ms. Dobrez earned her BS from the University of Illinois–Champaign and her MEd from Loyola University Chicago.
